Curnow maintains second place after solid display at Donington

Ross Curnow held on to second place in the Formula BMW UK Championship with a 5th and a 4th at Donington.

Practice at Donington on Thursday was very good with Ross being fastest by 0.17 of a second so everyone had great hopes for a really good weekend.

After other supporting races practice on Thursday and Friday and Touring cars on Saturday, their rubber and the heat changed the track and on Saturday with the all important qualifying Ross only managed 4th and 7th for the two races. His back tyres grained in both sessions due to overheating, a problem shared by some other competitors in Formula BMW and Formula Renault.

The two races on Sunday were very exciting with Ross taking a 5th and a 4th after being involved in a lot of the action. Changes to the cars setup after qualifying improved its handling, but in the first race it took 4-5 laps for the tyres to recover from the qualifying problems.

Niall Breen the Championship leader has know increased his lead in the championship but with 3 meetings and 6 races to go Ross could still catch him. Meanwhile the points between 2nd and 6th in the Championship are very close.
