Curnow challenges for a podium at Mondello Park (15 August 05)

Qualifying at Mondello Park went a lot better for Ross Curnow when he qualified 7th for race one and 5th for race two. This was despite only managing 3 flying laps due to lots of red flags in the first session and then a torrential downpour for the second where the session was stopped due to the track flooding.

For Sunday the first race was dry and Ross made up 2 places on the first lap, however on the 5th lap the car in second place spun off and rejoined the track just as Ross was coming round the corner. The two cars collided and Ross was forced to retire due to suspension damage and no front wing.

The team managed to get the car fixed for the second race, and although it had been raining, the rain had stopped and the track was beginning to dry. Despite this, everyone bar one person started the second race on wets. On the green flag lap Ross could see that the track was quite dry in places but within a few laps the car was feeling good and he had moved up one place, into 4th and was catching the group in front!

However, as Ross tried to overtake the 3rd placed car he was forced onto the grass and the two collided which caused him to lose two places. At the end of the race the circuit was virtually dry and Ross had gained back the places he had lost earlier to finish 4th and pick up some much needed points.
