Silverstone success for Curnow
Double M Racing’s manager Ross Curnow chose the last round
of the Formula Renault BARC Championship at Silverstone on 5th
October to have another outing in one of the cars his team
runs. Without the finance to fund a competitive drive in
2008, Curnow is developing his race engineering experience
in his role with Double M and climbing into the driver’s
seat himself for the occasional race. |

Gelles Racing teaming up for Valencia
Gelles Racing should be the only American
racing team to travel abroad to the Formula BMW World Final
in Valencia next month. Team owner Bob Gelles announced
today at least five drivers of international calibre will be
among the 36 entries in the four-day BMW race fest in Spain.
Three regular 2006 Gelles drivers, Adrien Herberts, Maxime
Pelletier and Sebastian Saavedra, will head to Europe while
American Ryan Phinny and Formula BMW UK front runner Ross
Curnow will join them. The fourth BMW World Finals are set
to take place from November 23 to 26 at the facility that
has become the Formula BMW headquarters. |

Thruxton puzzle for Curnow
Motorsport has its ups and downs but Rounds 9
and 10 of the Formula BMW UK Championship at Thruxton on 3rd/4th
June left Ross Curnow and the Nexa team scratching their
heads and wondering why they couldn’t get the car to perform
on the fast sweeps of the Hampshire circuit. “This is a

for the leaders from the four Formula BMW championships
across the world to pitch their talents against each other,
all competing for a $60,000 prize fund and the chance of a
Formula 1 test drive. |

in the Formula BMW World Final which is being held between
13th and 16th December 2005 in
Bahrain.
Formula BMW championships are held in 14
countries on three continents with 87 drivers from 31
nations competing against each other. This inaugural World
Final now gives drivers in the Formula BMW UK Championship
their first chance to pit themselves against the best in the
world in the category. |

Curnow scoops 20 points from final weekend Brands thriller

The final seconds of the 2005 Formula BMW UK
Championship were marked by an overtaking manoeuvre from
Ross Curnow which is being heralded as the finest of the
season. This netted him 20 points - the second highest of
the weekend - after two very consistent drives which
demonstrated the maturity of this 18 year-old from Salisbury
and took him to 5th place in the championship. |

wins thriller at
rain-soaked Knockhill
(30 August 05)
Ross Curnow took victory in
the second race of the two rounds which took place at the
Knockhill circuit in Scotland on August 28th.
Ross had been on the pace in
Friday testing, with the second and third fastest times in the two
sessions. In Saturday qualifying, he ended up fifth and third on
the grid for Sunday’s two races that would be held in atrociously
wet conditions.

Mondello Park went a lot better for Ross Curnow when he
qualified 7th for race one and 5th for race two. This was
despite only managing 3 flying laps due to lots of red flags
in the first session and then a torrential downpour for the
second where the session was stopped due to the track
flooding. |

Poor handling
again hampered Ross's first qualifying session at Croft, but
after qualifying a disappointing 18th for the first race,
the team managed to slightly improve the handling for the

circuit 4 weeks earlier which Ross had dominated. |

opener for Curnow’s new team

Young Salisbury driver, Ross Curnow, gave Promatecme/Soper
Sport a podium finish in its first ever race in the Formula
BMW racing category at Donington Park on Sunday.
After good test sessions, first at Thruxton and then at
Donington on the previous Thursday, most of the earlier
handling problems seemed to be resolved and Ross qualified
on the front row for the first race, 0.07 sec off pole. In a
thrilling race which entertained live TV viewers from start
to finish, Curnow was involved in a tight battle throughout,
finally finishing 2nd. |

away from the final official BMW testing day before the new
season in a positive mood after posting the 3rd fastest time
overall. Ross was fastest for most of the day but slipped to

A
bitterly cold and windy Oulton Park was the scene for the
third official Formula BMW pre-season test session, held on
11th and 12th March.
For many of the teams, this was an
opportunity to build on their extensive winter testing and
to capitalize on the data they had gained at the first two
official tests at Thruxton and Brands Hatch. For Ross
Curnow, however, this was his first drive with the
Promatecme/Soper Sport team with whom he signed last month.

Promatecme to run
2005 Car for Curnow

Frontrunning Formula 3 outfit Promatecme has made a late
decision to expand into Formula BMW this season to run a
single car for Ross Curnow.
Curnow had planned to compete with Soper Sport this year but
following an acquisition of the race preparation facility
used by the team, its future Formula BMW plans became
uncertain. Curnow was approached by a number of teams about
a possible drive before Promatecme came forward. The deal
with them brings a third top F3 name into the one-make
championship, joining Carlin and Fortec. |

Surprise honour
for Curnow at BARC awards evening

The prestigious Copthorne Hotel near Gatwick was the venue
for the British Automobile Racing Club’s ‘Big Night Out’ on
12 February for its Annual Championship Awards
presentations.
Ross Curnow was there to collect his award for winning the
2004 Formula BMW UK Rookie Championship. Andy Priaulx,
himself winner of the 2004 European Touring Car Championship
for BMW, presented Ross with his trophy and paid tribute to
what the Salisbury teenager had achieved. |

scoops sports award again (26 Feb 04)

400 people were at City Hall, Salisbury last week for the
Salisbury Journal Sports Awards 2003. The 2003 poll
attracted more than 6,000 votes, a response which Mike
Turner, The Journal’s sports editor who co-hosted the
