Silverstone sorrow for Curnow (7 Oct 05)

Brimming with confidence from Ross Curnow’s Formula BMW win at Knockhill three weeks earlier, the Promatecme team was looking forward to the next two rounds at Silverstone, which is their home circuit, on the weekend of 17th and 18th September.

Testing took place on the previous Monday - earlier than usual because of Formula 1 testing. Ross experienced handling problems throughout which could not be solved on the day and the team worked on changes during the week to try and find a better set up.

Alas, the problem could not be found and Ross went into the weekend with a car which he knew was not handling well. Suffice to say that he qualified 12th and 14th and finished 13th and 14th in the races.

A despondent Curnow said afterwards: “This has been a dreadful weekend which I want to put behind me as soon as possible. I know I have the ability to win - I showed that at Knockhill - but we just couldn’t get the car on the pace this weekend. We must look forward to Brands now, however, and focus on finishing the season with a couple of good results.

The final two rounds of the championship will be held at Brands Hatch on the weekend of 1st and 2nd October with testing on the Friday.
