Testing Time for Curnow at Silverstone (28 Mar 05)

After Ross Curnow’s very successful first test for Promatecme/Soper Sport at Oulton Park earlier this month, the team arrived for the next official Formula BMW test session at Silverstone on 22nd and 23rd March. Conditions were mixed on the first day but the second was warmer and brighter and provided the opportunity for more serious development.

Curnow finished the first day 6th overall out of 22 runners and was not comfortable with the car: “We’ve suffered bad understeer for most of the day and we’ve tried a number of things to try and eliminate it. This is a much simpler circuit than Oulton and we just don’t seem to be able to find the speed here.”

On the second day the team lost track time, first with an electrical problem and then when a new floor had to be fitted. Just as at Oulton, Ross put in a series of very consistent laps towards the close of the day but still couldn’t better his 6th overall.” Ross said afterwards: “I’m disappointed we couldn’t improve today. We’ve tried a lot of changes and we’re baffled at why we can’t find a good set up here. We’re going to have a close look at the data now and see if we can find the problem.”

The next official Formula BMW test sessions are at Thruxton on Friday 1st April and at Donington on Thursday 7th April. The first two races take place at Donington on the weekend of 9th and 10th April.
