Salisbury driver Ross Curnow had a successful drive in the Formula
Renault BARC Championship at Snetterton on 9 August.
Following difficulties in finding sponsorship for a competitive
seat in 2007, the Formula BMW race winner took an opportunity to
manage Double M Racing’s Formula Renault programme. He’s therefore
been focusing on race engineering this year but has been eager to
get back behind the wheel. ‘We’ve learnt a lot about the car but
decided it would be useful for me to race the car myself a couple
of times to get a feel for how competitive our set up is.’
After a shakedown drive at Oulton Park in May, the team used the
Snetterton round for another outing for Ross. Friday practice went
well and Saturday morning saw Ross qualify 3rd fastest
in a closely fought session. He then drove a sensible race amongst
the championship leaders to finish in 3rd place. For
only his second outing in the car, this was an impressive drive.
Ross said afterwards: ‘We’ve had a good weekend. We’ve got some
useful data on the car in different conditions and I’ve had a
great race. I’m still looking for finance to fund the next step in
my driving career but it’s nice to be on the podium again!’ |
